:: SAN VISION ::

Guiding principles

  1. In SAN committees there must be 50% of Sherpa women in decision making level. Balancing of gender must be considered while designing, implementing, monitoring the activities of SAN.
  2. Efforts of SAN and its plan and programs must be geared towards the integration of Sherpa community into all spheres in Nepal.
  3. Right based approach will be adopted while designing and implementing the activities of SAN.
  4. SAN activities will be geared towards social harmony in Nepal contributing national development.
  5. Policy of Good governance will be adopted and plans, programs and budgets of SAN will be made transparent to it's sister organizations and SAN members.
Strategies
In order to implement the long-term plan effectively, SAN will adopt following specific operational strategies

SAN will advocate for the amendment of racial discriminatory clauses in the constitution of Kingdom of Nepal.

  1. SAN will lobby and advocate with HMG for:
    (a) reserved seats in government jobs for Sherpa candidates
    (b) scholarship for education of Sherpa students
    (c) compulsory education up to 10+2 for Sherpa children.
  2. SAN will mobilize internal and external (government, NGOs, INGOs and donors) resources including with Sherpas residing abroad.
  3. SAN will explore/develop and implement alternatives of resources at center and the districts.
  4. Establish Sherpa NGOs and CBOs in Sherpa areas and implement SAN activities through them.
  5. SAN will assess the needs of capacity building and design and implement capacity building program of SAN central and district committees.
  6. SAN will evaluate the progress of its plan jointly with external evaluator periodically.
Goals

Following macro level changes in Sherpa community will be observed

  1. Life Expectancy increased
    From 53 years to 70 years

  2. No.of Sherpas below poverty line decreased: From 38% to 5%

    Note: Based on NPC’s 10 th five year plan Table 4.1 page- 37 (By the end of 2016 or end of 12 th five year plan Population below poverty line will be 10%)
Purpose

Top

After 20 years, following changes in Sherpas can be observed:

  1. Per capita income of Sherpa people in Nepal increased from Rs 6,607/ per year to Rs 30000:00
  2. Literacy rate of Sherpa people in Nepal increased from 37% to 100% (NPC also have 100% literacy goal by the end of 2016/2017).
  3. Sherpa culture is respected as a part of Nepali culture and included into curriculum of culture of universities in Nepal .
  4. In all sphere of nation, Sherpa people are represented in decision making bodies.
