:: About Sherpa Association Of Nepal ::

Sherpa Association Of Nepal (SAN) is non-profit making, non-political, non-partisan, autonomous social organization on national level, which aims to integrate the entire community by providing common platform for conserving and promotion language, scrip, religion , culture, arts and other areas of Common interest. Sociopolitical awakening programme will be introduced at different level. Activities related to image building and projection an appropriate image of the community will be promoted. Inculcating on the need for diversification of economic activities through different professions will be taken up as a challenge. It will develop the linkages with other ethnic association of Nepal of universal cause, and similarly promote its countries through their Association. Affiliation with international indigenous people's organization will be actively taken up. It will promote creation of association at every village and district to carry out the different central program through its liaison with these Associations. The national level Association will plan, organize, direct, co-ordinate. Facilitate and monitor different activities outlined in the charter.

:: SAN Background ::

Sherpa Association Of Nepal is a registered ethnic Association of Nepal. The necessity of forming such institution was felt long ago but was duly suppressed by the former Government considering such institution may provoke communalism. The political change of 1990 brought about several changes in the legislation among which freedom of promoting social and Cultural Association was also legalised. Consequently an Ad-hoc committee of a 26 member Organization was formed in the name of Sherpa Association Of Nepal on October 16,1990, which was formally conerted intofull convention held in kathmandu during 7-9 working committee and approved the legislation. The Declaration has been registered at kathmandu District Office in 1996, in the name of YAMBU SHYAEBA CHICHONG ( SHERPA ASSOCIATION OF NEPAL ).

:: SAN Objectives ::

  1. Promotion, Preservation & protection of Sherpa Language, Sherpa Literature, Script, Arts, Religion and Culture through Study, Research and other developmental activities.
  2. To create and appropriate environment for the overall development inthe field of education, intellect, social and econimic activities among the Sherpa Community.
  3. To establish harmonius relation with diffrent ethnic community, tribe, and other social organizations of the country and outside the country having universal problems and fight for the protection of equal rights.
  4. To promote the understanding of international human righ, minority rights, indigenous people's rights, citizen-rights and thereby advocate ratification and implementation of the convenants and other human rights instrument.

    In order to do that the Association will promote public awareness of all legal instruments developed in accordance wtih United Nation Universal declaration of Human Rights, International Law covenants, protocal and laws.
  5. To involve in contributing institutional support by the Sherpa community for the overall develpment of the country and also provide organised assistance to the citizen during natural calamity of the country.
  6. To engage in promting public awareness campaign for chekcing pollution and migration from the village which must be discouraged through poverty alleviation schemes in villages. This will prevent the environmental degradation in the country.
  7. To recieve donation or loan with HMG/Nepal premission formthe public, NGO,INGO and other donor agencies to carrry out the program in order to fulfil the objectives outlined above.
